Clinical practice
Dr. Jordan brings more than 15 years of healthcare experience spanning pediatric nursing, advanced practice, clinical research, and pediatric intensive care. He has served as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at Children’s of Alabama since 2018, grounding his scholarship and teaching in the realities of acute and critical care.
Academic leadership
As an Assistant Professor at the UAB School of Nursing, Dr. Jordan helps prepare Pediatric Acute Care Nurse Practitioners for complex clinical practice. His teaching emphasizes clinical reasoning, evidence-informed care, and the translation of research into better decisions for children and families.
Research program
His research focuses on pediatric acute and critical care, neurologic injury, clinical decision-making, patient-centered outcomes, and healthcare quality and safety. His doctoral work centered on pediatric brain injury, and his scholarship connects physiologic data, bedside assessment, and outcomes that matter to patients and families.
Research appointments
Dr. Jordan is an Associate Scientist with the UAB Civitan International Research Center, the UAB Comprehensive Neuroscience Center, and the UAB Center for Clinical and Translational Science - appointments that support interdisciplinary work across child health, neuroscience, and translational research.
Education
He earned a PhD in Nursing from the University of Alabama at Birmingham in 2021, a Master of Nursing with a Pediatric Acute Care Nurse Practitioner concentration from UAB in 2014, and a Bachelor of Science in Healthcare Management from UAB in 2011.
Professional recognition
Dr. Jordan is a Fellow of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners and was recognized by the National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners as a 50 Forward Emerging Leader.
